What is Duckduckgo's AI called DuckAssistant like?
A short update on the future of quacky Search.
Hey Everyone,
Come join my Reddit page, I’ll be sharing links to articles about A.I., Quantum and AQ among other things futurism.
I’m actually a fan of alt search engines like duckduckgo, perplexity.AI and You.Com. I simply like alternatives to monopolies and privacy hacks to our personal data. It was only a matter of time for even humble duckduckgo to strike back against BingAI and Google’s Bard (and all the rest).
It’s the first product I’ve heard that uses both AnthropicAI and OpenAI tech, and that’s what interested me. I’m very curious to see how Generative A.I. augments search capabilities and changes how consumers interact with A.I. when doing things like search.
The search company is dubbing their new product “DuckAssist,” powered by natural language technology from OpenAI (creators of ChatGPT) and Anthropic.
Do Ducks Fly Together?
What might be the great source of knowledge that DuckAssist uses in 2023? Why of course, DuckAssist is — currently — yep, “99%+ Wikipedia.
From Quora’s Poe to all of this I’m super interested in how this might improve their products. We need better interfaces to interact with A.I. The new DuckAssist tool will source answers from Wikipedia for quick, conversational responses to some questions
I cannot say for sure if they are respecting the privacy of Ducks but:
Big news and not at all, DuckDuckGo has become the latest search engine to incorporate artificial intelligence.
As of April 2022, DuckduckGo claim 97.7 million “users”.
So as of March 8th, 2023: The tool is free and available on the DuckDuckGo web browsing apps for phones and computers as well as the company’s browser extension.
As for myself I may have to wait, since at launch, DuckAssist is only available via DDG’s apps and browser extensions — but the company says it plans to roll it out to all search users in the coming weeks.
So it seems like Search will indeed be improved with more Conversational A.I. layers automatically whether Bard or BingAI or something else works out or not. I highly recommend you use Poe for Desktop and check out AnthropicAI’s Claude.
As good as ChatGPT feels to some folk, there are a lot of tools out there. So the speed of how we get summaries on the web might be greatly improved in 2023. DDG says that adding in generative AI summarization has enabled it to expand how many queries can be directly answered in this way — dubbing the addition of generative AI into the mix here a “fully integrated Instant Answer”.
In this sense I think DuckAssist could be actually useful.
