Hello Everyone,

It’s becoming clear that the Linux A.I. moment could become its iPhone Moment in 2024. How so?

It has to do with the compounding speed of A.I. innovation facilitated by models from Meta A.I., Hugging Face affiliated orgs and things like Star Coder and where all this leads to in 2024.

According to the recent report by The Information, the company behind ChatGPT, OpenAI, is seemingly under pressure from other available open-source AI models and is prepping to enter the space with one of its own.

In February, 2023 Meta publicly released an LLM for researchers. Since then things have been accelerating at a frantic pace including revelations by Google Researchers. This document that was circulating in Google said while the two companies have spent time “squabbling” (Microsoft and Google) and “looking over our shoulders” at each other, while missing the real threat to their dominance in artificial intelligence, (is Open-source development) the document warned.

The engineer, Luke Sernau, published the document on an internal system at Google in early April. Over the past few weeks, the document was shared thousands of times among Googlers, according to a person familiar with the matter.

With OpenAI about to release an Open-source LLM, this means 2024 will be like an iPhone Moment for Open-source LLMs, and the democratization of A.I. at scale.
