The new boss of Open AI is 34-year old Mira Murati

Hey Everyone,

While some of us enjoy hearing about what really happens at OpenAI and why Sam Altman was fired (we should have more on this after the investigation results are revealed), the reality of the ChatGPT era is not what you think.

Workers from the entry level to to the C-suite are prioritizing the adoption of artificial intelligence at work, but leaders don’t seem to be investing in the tools to help their employees learn on the job.

A lot of companies aren’t opting into Generative AI just yet. Meanwhile the public isn’t buying it either. Just 38% of U.S. executives say they’re currently helping workers become AI-literate. While roughly half of global professionals say they use AI in their jobs right now, and one-third say they’ve tested generative AI tools like ChatGPT, according to LinkedIn data.

That’s a huge disconnect. What’s even more striking is popular sentiment in response to AI.

As Axios reports based on a new poll of 32,000 global respondents from the consultancy firm Edelman, public trust is already eroding less than 18 months into the so-called "AI revolution" that popped off with OpenAI's release of ChatGPT in November 2022. Even as the stock market has hit a bull-market mostly due to its hype. That’s a marked difference.

Generative AI is Disrupting Trust in Tech

What shocked me the most about the Axios report and the poll was the following:

  • Trust in AI is low across political lines. Democrats trust in AI companies is 38%, independents are at 25% and Republicans at 24%.

  • Tech is losing its lead as the most trusted sector. Eight years ago, technology was the leading industry in trust in 90% of the countries Edelman studies. Today, it is the most trusted in only half of countries.

Trust in AI is eroding and no wonder, releasing products with harmful hallucination and exploits before they are even safe is probably not a good idea. I’m looking at you Microsoft.
